HIGHPOINT CENTER HOLDS SHORT EXHIBIT WITH LOOK/SEE
On Friday, May 5, Highpoint Center for Printmaking opened its gallery exhibition, LOOK/SEE with a free public reception. LOOK/SEE is a special show that features prints made at Highpoint by metro-area students during the 2005-2006 school year. This exhibit is a short one, running only through Friday, May 19, but it features great prints by young artists.
Every year, Highpoint partners with dozens of area schools to share the fun of printmaking with Minnesota’s young people. Student visitors range in age from 8 to 18 and represent diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Typically, up to 25 students visit HP as a group and spend several hours learning about and creating prints. Monotypes, drypoint, and relief printmaking are techniques of choice for these classes because of their immediacy and simplicity - with these methods, anyone can produce several prints in just an hour or two. Participating schools include the Jefferson Elementary School and Wellstone International High School.
Highpoint Center for Printmaking is located at 2638 Lyndale Avenue South. Contact Executive Director Carla McGrath at 612-871-1326 or log on to their website at highpointprintmaking.org to learn more!

CCP-SAFE TIPS ON STOPPING BICYCLE THEFT
Each year, thousands of bicycles are stolen in the Twin Cities. Most of them are recovered, yet because of a lack of proper identification, only a small percentage are ever returned to their owners. Here are some things you can do to prevent bike theft and to recover your bike if it is stolen.
Always lock a bike that’s left unattended, even for just a minute or in a fenced yard, and especially on a car/bike carrier rack. Make sure to lock the bike to something stationary, preferably where it can be seen by you and others (in Minneapolis, it’s illegal to lock bikes to any city sign or parking meter). A quality U-lock is the best locking device you can buy. Avoid locks, chains or cables that can be easily cut, broken or picked. Be sure both wheels are locked, either by removing one and U-locking it with the other and the frame or by using an auxiliary lock on one. You can also purchase devices that replace the cam and the lever on quick-release wheels and seats with a keyed system. Remove any components and accessories, including tire pump, seat, or bags that can easily be taken. If you keep your bike in a garage, make sure that the garage is properly secured. You can call your precinct Community Crime Prevention/SAFE team to get more information on garage security. Lock your bike inside the garage by the same techniques as listed above. If someone attempts to steal your bike, don’t resist. Your life is more valuable than a bike. Register/license your bike. It costs only $10 for three years and can be done at any Minnesota motor vehicle deputy registrar’s office, the Minneapolis Park Police, and the U of M Police Department.
If you have any questions, call Bicycle Registration at 651-296-7051 or the Minneapolis Park Police at 612-370-4777.
”IT’S HAPPENING HERE!” ALL AROUND LYN-LAKE
The Lyn-Lake Business Association would like to thank Blake Richardson and the staff at Herkimer’s Brew Pub for the great job they did acting as host to our Tuesday, April 18 membership meeting when It’s Greek to Me was closed for maintenance and cleaning! Lyn-Lake will meet again at It’s Greek to Me as usual on Tuesday, May 16.
Kudos go to CARAG’s Walk Patrol, who received a nice photo lay-out in the Star Tribune’s Region section on Thursday, April 20. The patrol comprised ten adults dressed in bright yellow vests, one 5-year-old girl wearing sunglasses, and a dog. The patrol plans to be out three nights a week, including on the weekends. Joyce Church Pastor Bill Morton was quoted in the Strib: "We’re a walking security camera."
