Our ward includes the vibrant and diverse neighborhoods of East Harriet, East Calhoun, Lowry Hill East, CARAG and Whittier. Ward 10 neighborhoods are an eclectic mix of renters, who make up 70% of the Ward's population, and homeowners.

People are drawn to the area's mix of housing choices and our high quality of life. Ward 10 is home to beautiful lakes and trails, well-loved neighborhood parks, thriving local businesses, a vibrant arts scene, and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. In addition to new apartment developments, a growing number of office spaces, including the CoCo co-working space, are adding job destinations to Ward 10.

Council Member Lisa Bender was elected to serve Ward 10 on November 5, 2013. Her first term priorities are:

  • Reopen Nicollet Avenue at Lake Street
  • Implement the Nicollet-Central Streetcar line
  • Build a network of protected bikeways, starting with the adoption of a network plan
  • Citywide composting with curbside organics pickup

For the past four years, streets in Minneapolis have transformed to allow residents to experience their city in a whole new way — by bike, by skateboard, however they please. We call this Open Streets Mplsand it has grown from one event in 2011 to six in 2014. In 2015 we are planning up to eight events all across the city!

We see Open Streets Mpls as the perfect chance to promote healthy living, local businesses, sustainable transportation and civic pride in Minneapolis. On multiple days throughout the year, we create miles of safe, car-free streets so that residents of all ages can walk, bike, shop, participate in spontaneous play activities, and get to know one another.

We hope you'll join us this year on a street in your own neighborhood, and enjoy it from a different perspective. Come wander the Open Streets and have some fun! You can even bring your dog.

And of course, it's free!
